When a major league baseball star, Brett Sooner, is sidelined by a prolonged strike, he takes over the sportscasting duties at a small TV station in Milwaukee. He and the station's energetic female general manager, Meg O'Donnell, don't always see eye-to-eye, especially when it comes to the direction in which he sees their relationship progressing. Also working at the station are: Dwight Kling, the station's overzealous sales manager; Warner Brakefield, the station's offbeat weatherman; Libby Desoto, Meg's lively assistant who can't keep her eyes off Brett; and Tad Sherman the anchorman whose recurring stomach problems lead to many interesting newscasts.
