"One of the things that makes Costa Rica so special is that it is probably the closest most Americans can get to real 'Indiana Jones' country. I love the fact that you can drive from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic coast in a day, and go from being drenched one minute in torrential rain to basking in glorious bright sunshine the next. There are a large number of rustic, eco-friendly lodges to go along with the nation’s strong green policy. Adventure is abundant here, thanks to activities ranging from world-class surfing to wild river rafting. "It may be summer here but it's winter 'Downunder,' so if you feel like taking a break from the heat, then think about a cool escape in the adventure capital of the world, Queenstown, New Zealand. It's closer than you think. You board the flight, have dinner, watch a movie, go to sleep, and wake up in the youngest country on Earth. Air New Zealand has multiple direct flights from the West Coast everyday. I love the winter festival at the end of June, and I even won the cow pat tossing competition back in 1989! Think of an adventure and Queenstown has it. This is, after all, the birthplace of commercial bungy jumping and there is good reason it's called a 'Natural Theme Park.' "As I always say, it doesn't matter where you are in the world, at the end of the day a great travel experience really comes down to the people—who you travel with and who you meet when you get to your destination. You could be excused for confusing the mountains of Banff with Patagonia or the Southern Alps of New Zealand, but you would never confuse those countries if you interact with their people. Having visited over 100 countries in my career, I have to say Fijians are the nicest. Fiji can match any tropical island in the world with its white sand beaches, exotic resorts, and great food, but what sets it apart from other destinations is its people. Fiji simply would not be the same without them. I love their way of life, their warmth and their willingness to include visitors in their everyday lives. "The Greek Islands are made up of thousands of barren islands along with hundreds inhabited by friendly locals. Look out for specialty trips like six-day Greek cooking classes, rock climbing adventures, honeymoon specials, yoga and spa indulgences, and even the chance to take a step back in history. July and August are busy months, but if you travel by sea you can have all the privacy you want island hopping while enjoying the fantastic food, great weather and crystal clear water.
