Great show & great cast, good stories. Does not take place in outer space as description states, unless you consider Cardiff, England, Great Britain, to be outer space! Eve Myles, John Barrowman great leads.

Hurry up with next series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 1, 2007
Being glued to my seat for the final episodes of Torchwood, I thought the series was FANTASTIC!!!!! Being a long follower of Dr Who, was wondering how well a spin off would go down. Well BBC you've got it right for a change. During the new series of Dr Who, we were introduced to "Torchwood", but who would realise, that an anagram of "Doctor Who" would be such an impact on another series. I realise for any younger viewers who were looking forward to watching Torchwood were told it was more for an adult audience, and were probably disappointed in not being allowed to watch it. Hunky John Barrowman made each episode worth watching. I wonder how many people in the final episode were in tears thinking that he was killed off, until the final minutes when he suddenly came back from the dead!! To the producers and actors of the series, a big hearty WELL DONE, and hurry up with the next series as my evenings in front of the television will be rather dull and boring till then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Torchwood just misses the mark

Torchwood has a fantastic premise, a super secret organization that cleans up the alien “stuff” that falls through a rift in space/time, (in Cardiff no less) run by a humanoid that may or may not be an alien himself, who is even more of a mystery than Torchwood itself. The organization is powerful to the point of having authority over MI-6, the CIA, and every other national security agency, has final say over what alien tech gets released if any, and does pretty much what it wants when an issue involves aliens. Like I said, great premise but the very premise is what undercuts the show.
All science fiction involves an unwritten agreement or contract between the consumer of the story and the producer of the story. The consumer agrees to the willing suspension of disbelief while the story is presented, and the producer agrees to provide a story that is consistent with the universe the author has created and does not violate the consumer’s illusion of reality. In this Torchwood fails miserably.
The very concept of a super secret organization given the responsibility of defending humanity from the dangers of alien incursion requires that we believe the members of that organization are willing to place the safety of humanity above their personal agendas, desires and needs. But the people of Torchwood never do. In the first season Ianto hides his girl friend in the basement, Owen uses alien tech to get shagged, and they all tear open the rift because they can’t deal with their personal losses, and that's the short list. Saving the world is serious business that requires people who can set aside their emotions and do what needs to be done, but these people fall apart a the drop of a hat. You get the feeling that if the morning toast burns Ianto will burst into tears, Owen will go into a week-long funk, Jack will retreat to his hole and mourn for death, and Gwen will go wide eyed with lower lip all a quiver. Sorry, but I’ve met members of the British SAS, so there is no way that I believe that these are the only people in Britain that could be found to protect the whole of humanity. Could the producers at least hire someone who served in the SAS to teach these people to look like they know how to use a gun?
The advertisements stated this is smarter than the X-Files. Scully and Mulder should sue for defamation. If you what to know what a fictional group charged with secretly protecting the earth from aliens looks and behaves like, without violating your willing suspension of disbelief, then rent the DVDs of Stargate SG-1. Torchwood’s group of hormonal, hedonistic, undisciplined, sex obsessed, manic-depressives is a complete bust.
God how I miss Jack O’Neill.

Great cast, but the writing could be a lot better
November 26, 2007
When I heard Captain Jack was being spun off in his own show I was more than a little excited. As a huge Dr. Who fan I wanted to see where this would all go and boy was I let down. Overall, the episodes range from plain dumb to kind off boring, with a few stand out episodes being just plain creepy.
So, what's the problem. Well, it's the writing. Good fantsy writing demands a certain logic and that you stick to it and it needs real charcters that the viewer can relate to and identify with. After almost a season, all the characters are still one dimensional and there is no rhyme or reason to their actions. They talk about how top secret thay are, but they have pizza delivered. They are supposed to collect alien artifacts, but those artifact are easily borrowed by the team and when one of the team members is given an alien devices that allows her to read minds she doesn't tell her team nor use it for her self, instead she just has sex with the woman who gave her the device. I'm at a loss to explain their actions and I'm starting to lose interest in what happens next.
